This series of rugged DC-DC converters is designed for an operating life of up to 20 years in railway environments. This design eliminates optocouplers in the feedback loop, which contributes to an MTBF of over 175,000 hours at 45°C. Very low component count, large design headroom, and full electronic protection also contribute to the long operating life of the units.
The BHR 65X2R-4U2NF converters meet the requirements of EN50155 for electronic equipment used on railway rolling stock. The units have heavy filtering on the input and output and comply with EN50121-3-2 and EN55022 Class A conducted noise and radiated emissions. EN55022 Class B is available on request.
The railway converters have no internal wiring, which enhances their vibration-withstand capacity and contributes to long-term reliability. The internal printed circuits are conformal coated for protection from effects of moisture and other contaminants. All heat generating components are installed on aluminum heat-sink blocks which are thermally coupled to the heatsink fins and cooled by natural convection. Heatsink fins are installed on the side of the unit and internally. This delivers sufficient cooling for operation over a minimum of -25°C to +50°C temperature range without de-rating. Wider temperature ranges are also available.
The converters operate from DC-inputs of 72Vdc (43—101V), 96Vdc (58—135V), or 110Vdc (66—154V) and deliver a single, regulated output of 24Vdc, 48Vdc or 125Vdc or custom. A 12Vdc output is available, with derating to 800W. A +/- dual output configuration is also possible. Typical conversion efficiency is 80-90% at full load.
The BHR 65X2R-4U2NF is built with two BHR 65R modules connected redundant parallel, with each internal module generating 500W. This modular construction provides inherent redundancy. This design can also be used as a 500W redundant power supply.
