The BHR 65X2-4U2NF is a 1kW addition to ABSOPULSE’s line of convection cooled, high-reliability, industrial DC-DC converters. This design encompasses electrical and mechanical features that contribute to an operating life of up to 20 years. The units are suitable for heavy-duty industrial applications where fan cooling is not permitted and in which the replacement or repair of electronic equipment is logistically difficult or costly.

The feedback loop on the primary side employs a sensing-circuit rather than optical components. This significantly improves the MTBF over conventional designs. Very low component count, large design headroom, and full electronic protection also contribute to the long operating life of the unit.

The robust mechanical construction has no internal wiring, which enhances vibration-withstand capacity. Internal printed circuits are conformal coated for protection from the effects of moisture. All heat generating components are installed on aluminum heat-sink blocks which are thermally coupled to the heatsink fins and cooled by natural convection. Heatsink fins are installed on the side of the unit and internally for efficient cooling. This provides sufficient cooling for operation over a minimum of 0°C to +50°C temperature range without de-rating. Wider temperature ranges are also available.

The BHR 65X2-4U2NF is built with two BHR 65 modules connected redundant parallel, with each internal module generating 500W. This modular construction provides inherent redundancy – the failure of one internal module would cause a 50% drop in output power while the unit remains functional at 500W. This design can also be used as a 500W redundant power supply.

The converters operate from DC-inputs of 48Vdc, 125Vdc or custom and deliver a single output of 24Vdc, 48Vdc or 125Vdc. A +/- dual output configuration is also possible. Typical conversion efficiency is 85% at full load.

The BHR 65X2-4U2NF converters are designed for compliance with EN/UL60950-1 and equivalent safety standards. Electronic protection includes 2250Vdc input-output isolation, inrush current limiting, reverse polarity, over voltage, over temperature and short circuit conditions. The input and output are filtered for low noise. The input meets EN55032 Class A with wide margins.

An EN50155 compliant railway quality version of this design, the BHR 65X2R-4U2NF Series, is also available.
