The LTH 65R-HSA-F3 series of heavy-duty, railway quality DC-DC converters use field-proven technology to deliver up to 250W output power. Designed to float charge hold-up batteries for electrical equipment installed on railway rolling stock, the units are also suitable for other transportation and industrial applications.

The converters operate from a 12Vdc (10.5-16V) input and deliver 24V, 48V or 125Vdc and their corresponding float voltages. Custom input/output values are also available on request. An optional built-in redundancy diode allows for paralleling and N+1 operation or back-up battery connection. An output fail alarm is also available on request.

The railway converters are cooled by a heatsink assembly block with fins that is attached to the under-surface of the unit.  Additional cooling is achieved by natural convection through the cooling slots. The heatsink assembly also allows for mounting on uneven and thermally non-conductive surfaces, such as wood, plastic and brick walls. The units are also suitable for applications where a heatsinking surface is not available. A DIN-rail mounting option is available for trackside applications. The units are rated for operation over a -25°C to +55°C temperature range for full specification with no derating required; wider temperature ranges are available on request.

HSA-F3 heatsink assembly with fins enable convection cooling. This mechanical structure allows the unit to be mounted on uneven and thermally non-conductive surfaces. No fans or installation on a heat-sinking surface required. (Click on image for mechanical outline drawing)

The rugged converters are designed to withstand high levels of shock and vibration to IEC 61373 Cat 1 A&B. The internal boards are conformal coated to provide protection from humidity and airborne contaminants.

The LTH 65R-HSA-F3 converters meet the requirements of EN 50155 for electronic equipment used on railway rolling stock. They are equipped with heavy filtering on the input and output and comply with EN 50121-3-2. The units also meet the requirements of EN 50121-4, EN 61000-4-2 (ESD), EN 61000-4-3 (RF Immunity), EN 61000-4-4 (Fast Transients), and EN 61000-4-6 (Conducted Immunity).  Protection features include 3000Vdc input-output isolation, reverse polarity protection, overload protection, rectangular current limiting with short-circuit protection and thermal shutdown in case of insufficient cooling.

An industrial quality version of the design, LTH 65-HSA-F3, is also available.
