ABSOPULSE Electronics BAR 250R-D3 (IP66) series of RIA12 railway DC-DC converters deliver up to 250W output power. With an input surge withstand capacity 3.5 times nominal input voltage for 20 milliseconds, the units meet the requirements of RIA12 with generous margins. RIA12 is the general specification for the protection of traction and rolling stock equipment from transients and surges in DC control systems.

Wide EN50155 input ranges

Nominal input voltages and EN50155 input ranges include 36Vdc (22-51V), 48Vdc (29-67V), 72Vdc (43-101V), 96Vdc (58-135V) or 110Vdc (66-154V). At 24Vdc input, the units are derated to 200W.  Single outputs options include 12Vdc, 24Vdc, 48Vdc or 110Vdc. Custom input and output voltages are available on request. Regulation is better than 1% from no load to full load across all line and load conditions.

Meet EN50155 for electronic equipment used on railway rolling stock

The BAR 250R-D3 (IP66) converters meet the requirements of EN50155 for electronic equipment used on railway rolling stock. The units are suitable for on-board and trackside infrastructure applications. With heavy filtering on the input and output, the converters comply with EN50121-3-2 electromagnetic compatibility requirements, ensuring minimal interference with the operation of other electronic devices. The converters also meet EN61000-4-2 (ESD), EN61000-4-3 (RF Immunity), EN61000-4-4 (Fast Transients), and EN61000-4-6 (Conducted Immunity).

Further electronic protection includes 3000Vdc input to output isolation, output short circuit, overload and overvoltage protection, and 3.5xVn surge withstand capacity.

IP66-rated environmental protection

Enclosure in robust, D3 size die cast aluminum IP66-rated packages ensures protection from the ingress of water from powerful jets, fog, sand, metal dust, dust, oil, insects and other contaminants. The input and output are via sealed cable glands, circular connectors or custom connections. Application-specific vents for pressure equalization ensure that pressure inside the enclosures is equalized, that the strain on connectors is minimized and the environmental seal remains impermeable.  The compact D3 package measures 160 x 93 x 406 mm (W x H x D), which makes them suitable for space constrained applications.

Cooling is by internal conduction to the walls of the IP66 enclosure and by baseplate to an external chassis or cabinet wall, with additional convection via the outside surface. The units operate within a -25°C to +55°C cold plate temperature range for full specification.
