Railway DC-DC converters offer protection of traction and rolling stock equipment from transients and surges in DC control systems

The DCR 30R-F0 series is the most recent addition to our line of RIA12 railway DC-DC converters. The input voltage surge withstand capacity for the converters is 3.5 times greater than the nominal input voltage for 20 milliseconds; this ensures that the converters meet RIA12 with large time margins. RIA12 is the specification for the protection of traction and rolling stock equipment from transients and surges in DC control systems. In addition, the units meet the requirements of EN50155 for electronic equipment used on railway rolling stock.

The railway converters offer wide EN50155 input ranges of 15-34V (24Vdc nominal), 29-67V (48Vdc), 43-101V (72Vdc) or 66-154Vdc (110Vdc). The 30W units deliver outputs of 12V, 24V or 48Vdc. Custom input and output voltages are available on request. Regulation is better than 1% from no load to full load across all line and load conditions. Efficiency is a minimum of 85% at full load.

The DCR 30R-F0 converters are equipped with heavy filtering on the input and output and comply with EN50121-3-2. They also meet EN61000-4-2 (ESD), EN61000-4-3 (RF Immunity), EN61000-4-4 (Fast Transients) and EN61000-4-6 (Conducted Immunity). Other protection includes 3000Vdc input-output isolation, overload protection, thermal protection and current limiting.

Cooling is by conduction via baseplate. Additional cooling is achieved by natural convection through the cooling slots. All heat generating components are installed on aluminum heatsink blocks which are thermally connected to the base plate. This also provides exceptional mechanical ruggedness. The converters operate within a -25°C to +55°C cold plate temperature range for full specification, without the need for derating. We can also meet your requirements for wider temperature ranges.

The railway converters are housed in robust, compact F0 type chassis measuring 94 x 48 x 160 mm. A 50W and 60W version of this design, the DCR 50R-F0 and DCR 60R-F0 are also available in the F0 enclosure.
