The RWD 200-P200L and RWD 200-P200X series of fully encapsulated, wide input range DC-DC converters deliver up to 200W for redundant and parallel operation in rolling stock applications.

The converters operate from a 24Vdc (14.4-34V), 36Vdc (22-51V), 48Vdc (29-67V), 72Vdc (43-101V), 96Vdc (58-135V), 110Vdc (66-154V) or custom input voltage. The units deliver 12Vdc/16A, 24Vdc/8A or custom output voltage. Conversion efficiency is between 80 to 90%, depending on input/output configuration.

The railway DC-DC converters have a built-in redundancy diode for redundant and parallel operation of several units. The units have special circuitry to lower the hiccup threshold, which makes them suitable for paralleling. An output fail alarm would be triggered if one of the connected units fails.

The RWD 200-P200L and RWD 200-P200X converters meet the stringent requirements of EN 50155 for electronic equipment used on railway rolling stock. The units have heavy filtering on the input and output and comply with EN 50121-3-2. The converters also meet EN 61000-4-2 (ESD), EN 61000-4-3 (RF Immunity), EN 61000-4-4 (Fast Transients), and EN 61000-4-6 (Conducted Immunity). Other protection features include 3000Vdc input-output isolation, reverse polarity protection, overload protection, thermal protection and current limiting.

The DC-DC converters are fully encapsulated with a thermally conductive MIL-grade silicon rubber compound with a UL94V-0 flammability rating and meet environmental criteria as requested in MIL-810C, D. Encapsulation ensures heat dissipation throughout the module as well as protection from high levels of shock and vibration. Encapsulation also ensures immunity to moisture, fog, oil, salt, dust and other contaminants. Conduction cooling via base plate to customer chassis or heat-sink enables operation over a -40°C to +70°C temperature range for full specification without derating.

The RWD 200-P200X and RWD 200-P200L railway DC-DC converters are electrically identical. The flanges on the RWD 200-P200X are at each end of the chassis. On the RWD 200-P200L, the flanges run along the sides of the chassis.
