Encapsulated, DC-DC Converter delivers up to 1kW in Extreme Environments


This ultra-rugged industrial quality single output DC-DC converter uses field-proven technology to deliver up to 1000W output power.  The converter is entirely potted with a thermally conductive MIL-grade silicon rubber compound to ensure immunity to shock, vibration and humidity. Cooling is via baseplate by conduction.

Fully encapsulated DC-DC converter is suitable for operation in extreme environments including heavy industry, mining, oil rigs and transportation.

The PDC 65-P600 Series ultra-rugged, industrial quality DC-DC converters use field-proven technology to deliver up to 1kW output power, depending on the input/output configuration. This units are fully encapsulated in a thermally conductive MIL-grade silicon rubber compound for resistance to shock, vibration and moisture. They are suitable for operation in industrial, transportation, oil & gas, mining, utility and other extreme environments. An EN50155 compliant railway version of this design that complies with for electronic equipment used on railway rolling stock is also available.

This 1kW converters deliver 24Vdc, 48Vdc or 110Vdc and accept 48Vdc (42V–60V range) or 125Vdc (90V–145V range) supply voltages. Other input and output values are available on request. An optional redundancy diode allows parallel connection. Other options include alarms and indicators.

Cooling is via base plate by conduction. The units operate in a -40°C to 60°C cold plate temperature range at full specification. Extended temperature ranges available on request. This encapsulated converters measure 155 x 72 x 269 mm and weighs 3.4 kg.

The PDC 65-P600 units filtered to meet EN 55032 Class A EMI with wide margins. It is also designed to meet EN 60950-1 and related standards. Protection features include inrush current limiting, surge and reverse polarity protection on the input. Output protection includes current limiting with short-circuit protection (no hiccup) and thermal shutdown with self-resetting. Line and load regulation combined are ±1% from no load to full load and efficiency is a minimum of 80%, depending on input/output voltage combination.

Comprehensive electronic protection includes overload, overvoltage and short circuit protection, and thermal shutdown with automatic reset in case of insufficient cooling. This DC-DC converters are filtered to meet EN 55032 Class A EMI with wide margins; Class B is available on request. It is designed to meet EN/IEC 60950-1 and corresponding industrial standards.
